The Weather Outside...

It looks delightful, but is terribly frightful! Another several inches of snow fell over the last 24 hours, putting our total for this winter (even before winter officially began just after 6:00 this morning!) at more than 30 inches...which comes to over one-third the average for an entire winter.

Worse, though, is the cold, with a wind chill right now of -30! So we didn't even go to church today, much to my chagrin. Jeff and I would have gone if it were just us, but it didn't seem wise to take the girls out in it unless absolutely necessary.

Which reminds me of Laura Ingalls and her stories of horrible winters in On the Banks of Plum Creek and, especially, The Long WInter. We're more like Plum Creek, in that we can't venture out for church, and it's dangerous to be outside for long - bothersome but manageable. However, if we have to take to twisting hay to make a fire, as in Winter...well, then we'll be in trouble! :^)
