Ultimate Blog Party 2011

Ultimate Blog Party 2011

I happened upon last year's blog party quite by accident just a few days before the event began. Being my first-ever blog hop, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I had a blast visiting as many blogs as I could and tracking visits here by many fellow ultimate hoppers. I ended up signing on to follow dozens of blogs and gained quite a few followers myself. And so this year I'm back - looking forward to hopping as much as possible and hoping for a similar experience.

Last year I shared my Top Ten Tidbits about Tina, and you're more than welcome to get to know me by checking out that list.

This year I decided to give you a taste of who I am in a different way - through an acrostic poem:

Teacher
Before being blessed with my own children, I taught English to immigrant kids, first at a middle school and then at a high school. I loved my students and am in contact with many to this day. And I've continued as a teacher since the day I left the classroom, mainly with my own children but in other venues as well.

Instrumentalist
I started out as a French horn player and later added trumpet. Currently, though, my voice is my main instrument, and I serve as a vocalist on my church's worship team.

Networker
For almost three years, I've been on Facebook and The Homeschool Lounge, a wonderful online community for home educators. I've loved keeping up with real-life friends I don't get to see often enough and getting to know many wonderful virtual friends, too.

Actress
Along with singing and public speaking, I love acting. In high school, I played The Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music. As an adult, I've had several terrific roles, perhaps most notably that of Beverly Crusher in a Star Trek send-up at my church a few years ago.

Home Educator
It was a given that I'd come home to raise our children as soon as God blessed us with them, a decision I count as one of the best I've ever made. My girls are now almost nine and almost 10, and I like to say I've been home-educating since the day I brought each home from the hospital. The content changes over the years; the privilege and joy have only grown.

Oldie-Wed
My husband married the bride of his youth, and I'm proud to say we've maintained our commitment to and love for each other for over 20 years (and counting!).

Language Lover
I am very "word-smart" so I love everything language-related. I enjoyed learning Spanish as my second language and studying linguistics in college. I am a writer and would-be public speaker. I trust the Lord has more in store for me in those areas in years to come.

Latte Fan
I have never been one to drink coffee, but became acquainted with Starbucks' Chai Tea Latte a few years ago. It's now my go-to treat-myself drink in cold weather.

Entrepreneur
Several years ago, I opened a home business, Teachers' Tots Child Care, in order to supplement my family's income while staying home with my daughters. I've enjoyed the endeavor a lot and absolutely adore the children for whom I currently care.

Night Owl
I'm writing this at nearly midnight not only because I want to be among the first to post on this year's hop but also because I usually catch my second wind around 10:00. And, of course, late at night is when I can most easily have some quiet, alone time. This sometimes conflicts with my desire to make early-morning workouts at the Y, but I usually manage both pretty well.

Bible Lover
I am an unabashed defender of the Bible as the authoritative Word of God and seek to know it better tomorrow than I do today.

Exerciser
I sometimes go through spurts when I don't exercise much, but I always regret those times. I am happiest when I'm going to the Y at least five times a week - walking the track, working on the cardio machines, and lifting some weights.

Christ-Follower
If I could order these tidbits by importance, this would come first. Jesus is the "hub" of the bike wheel that is my life, and my main goal is to grow closer to Him in order to become more like Him.

Kitty Aficionado
I've had cats since I was 12 years old, as many as seven at one time (not counting all the farm cats on our property when I was growing up). We currently own three: Clawde Allouez, Sweater, and Sparkle.

Whew! That was harder than I thought it'd be - not telling about myself but wording it in such as a way as to fit within the confines of my name! Some of what I've shared definitely defines "me;" other items are merely tidbits chosen to fit the constraints of the poem. But hopefully it's all given you a snapshot of me.

Please leave a comment to let me know you've been here. If you do, I'll be sure to make stopping by "your place" a priority on my own blog hop journey this week.

Neat blog. I also love my 9-pump, no water, whole mile, 180 degree Chai tea latte at Starbucks. BTW, the next light from my house is Hollenbeck Road in Sunnyvale, CA.

Thanks, Tina, for visiting my photo/creation-themed blog. I think we're friends on The Homeschool Lounge. I'm not sure about Facebook but I've seen you around :).

I enjoyed getting to know you. I should try the acrostic poem next year. Great idea! I'm also a Christ-follower, Bible lover, home educator, night owl, networker, language lover (I had studied 5 languages), latte fan, and oldie-wed (we'll be celebrating our 20 year anniversary in September).

I read in your post below that you have a friend who is a missionary in Thailand. That's cool! I was born and raised in Thailand.

My main blog is http://bornagainandblessed.blogspot.com/ and my homeschool-related blog is http://fivesavedbygrace.blogspot.com/ . If you get a chance, please stop by and visit.

Hi Tina, thanks for stopping by my blog. I am looking forward to reading your posts especially the home schooling and your home business ones! My niece gave me a acrostic poem of my name many years ago, I still have it. It was neat to read how she thought of me as her "aunt Jenny" - there were nine adjectives she had to whip up to describe me. :)
